Moshe Safdie: Habitat in Nature

A new short film from Safdie Architects looks at the impact of Moshe Safdie's Habitat 67, the iconic residential structure built in Montreal in 1967. The film has been released to coincide with construction milestones on three of the firm's large residential projects, all of which build upon the ideas of the original Habitat.

Safdie Architects' Altair Residences in Colombo, Sri Lanka, will open to residents in September, the same month that will see the topping out of Qorner Tower in Quito, Ecuador. Those milestones follow this month's launch of the second phase of Habitat Qinhuangdao in China, a doubling of the first phase that was completed in 2017. With these various milestones, Safdie Architects looks back to Habitat 67, interviewing residents of the iconic building that followed from Safdie's philosophy of "For Everyone a Garden." The new projects illustrate a continuation of that basic idea — projects that Safdie hopes are part of a longer evolution of building with nature.
