New Horizon

The bellows-like sculpture made entirely from wood is placed, as the name of the festival implies, on the edge of the water. Once inside, visitors are confronted with a boxy space whose far wall is made of a jumble of wood planks puntuated by two rectangular openings. The openings remove the distant horizon line from the view, so people simultaneously glimpse the water and they sky, but not their shared edge. The effect is best seen in the short video at the bottom.

Atelier 37.2's New Horizon is on display as part of the Sculpture by the Sea festival until 5 July 2015.
