Addition of storey and façade refurbishment of a school building.

The image of a car body served as the leitmotif for the extension to the school building from the 1950s. The architecture of the building thus makes direct reference both to the school’s eponym, the automobile designer Wilhelm Maybach, and to the subjects that are taught here, i.e. metal technology and automotive engineering. For economic reasons the horizontal projection itself is designed with a two-sided arrangement of rooms with own supporting structure built virtually above the existing school. The completely detached design of the additional storey also enables it to be removed again without any extensive work having to be carried out on the original building. In view of the demographic development in the numbers of our students and in keeping with long-lasting solutions in school construction this is certainly an aspect that is worthy of mention.
