The always inventive Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD), under Achim Menges at the University of Stuttgart, has released details on its Cyber Physical Macro Materials project, which "demonstrates a tangible vision of a new dynamic (and intelligent) architecture for public spaces."
The project on the ICD website is described as a "UAV [re]configurable architectural system," which means that drones can pick up the lightweight building blocks and reposition them as needed, such as to provide shade to a particular spot as the sun moves over the course of the day. If the sound of drones overhead seems far from relaxing, have no fear; they can be programmed to retreat to nearby rooftops until needed again.
Watch a short film on the cyber-canopy below and visit ICD's website for more information.
