Arch 355: Rebuilding Medcamps
Brad Deal
"This short film showcases the blossoming partnership between the Design Build Studios of Louisiana Tech University and Medcamps of Louisiana, a non-profit organization that provides free summer camp experiences to children with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Their projects create one of the most engaging and meaningful learning experiences of these design student's academic careers and the partnership is not only directly benefiting a diverse and underserved user group, but is also allowing the power of public interest design to shape the next generation of architects."
2nd Place
Timeless Innovation
Minji Kim, Seth F. Johnson, Shawn Griffin
"Savannah, GA, is a great example of how the urban plan of a city can bring the community together. The innovative urban plan from 1733 is having a positive impact on the community to this day. Preserving the vernacular architecture and blending it with the modern elements, there is no other place like Savannah and that is why the community, tourists, and architects alike love this timeless city."
3rd Place
Renewal: The Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility
Brandon Brown
"The Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility is the largest commingled recycling facility in the United States. Annabelle Selldorf (Principal at Selldorf Architects, New York) offers insight on how sustainability played an integral part in the facility's design, while Eadaoin Quinn (Sims Municipal Recycling) explains how the facility will transform New York into a more sustainable city."
