Over four nights in October, Chicago-based Luftwerk applied their distinctive blend of video, light and architecture to Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House for the multimedia exhibition INsite.
According to Luftwerk, the collaboration of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, "INsite celebrates the structural minimalism and transparency of the Farnsworth House." Further, and as evidenced in the 3-minute film below, "Once illuminated the planes of the architecture ... appear to float in darkness with projected light travelling through the glass walls, creating a myriad of reflections...it dissolves the structure and distills it into an experience of light and space."
Previous to INsite, Luftwerk projected their work on other notable architectural "canvases," such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Robie House, Eero Saarinen's JFK Terminal, and Bertrand Goldberg's Marina City.
