HWP's contribution to the prestigious architectural competition "Mechnikov North Western State Medical University, St. Petersburg" earned first-place by the University and Russian Ministry of Health, who announced the competition in April 2013. HWP is one of the two favoured design proposals. Jason King, Design Manager for the competition team explained: "Our unique approach of bringing together an in-house, integrated design team of Hospital Planners, Architects and Engineers into a competition environment, has paved the way for to a successful result. With this project we wanted to present a fresh approach to hospital design in Russia, with the highest standards of Green Building Design and German Quality and Engineering." The architectural competition asked for a concept design for a university hospital, research building and a rehabilitation clinic with a total capacity of 1,290 beds and 1 million outpatients per year. HWP presented 'ten big ideas', including operational, functional, technical and cultural aspects, as well as guidelines for a sustainable, energy-efficient building. The competition team delivered the extensive portfolio of the architectural concept within just four weeks.
