In 1985, Christoph Ingenhoven founded ingenhoven associates, a pioneering practice in the field of sustainable architecture. The team consists of about 100 staff of various disciplines and aims to create architecture that responds to each respective location in a specific way and, at the same time, tries to find architectural answers to urgent questions of the present and the near future. The practice has won numerous competitions and awards. Using the term supergreen®, it pursues a comprehensive sustainability concept. It develops and builds projects of any size and typology in almost all parts of the world—all in accordance with the highest green building standards, such as those of LEED, Green Star (Australia), BREEAM (GB), DGNB (Germany) and CASBEE (Japan).

Christoph Ingenhoven was born in 1960 and studied architecture and art history at Aachen Technical University and at the Düsseldorf Arts Academy under Hans Hollein. He is a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and the Federal Foundation for Building Culture. In addition, he is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

To date, the most important projects include Lufthansa HQ at Frankfurt Airport, the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, the Daniel Swarovski Corporation’s HQ at Lake Zurich, the Lanserhof health resort at the Tegernsee and the high-rise complex Marina One in Singapore. The high-rise RWE building in Essen was completed as early as 1997. It is one of the world’s first high-rise buildings with a double-skin façade for the natural ventilation of office spaces. In the same year, the design for Stuttgart’s main railway station was awarded 1st prize in an international architecture competition. In 2006, Christoph Ingenhoven received the Global Holcim Gold award—one of the world’s most prestigious architectural awards—for the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2025.

One of the practice’s core competences is the design and realization of high-rise buildings. In 2012, ingenhoven associates was awarded the International Highrise Building prize for the 139-meter high building 1 Bligh Street in Sydney, which was also certified with the highest Australian green building rating, “Green Star, six star”.

In the beginning of 2017, the foundation stone for the Toranomon Hills project in Tokyo was laid, a 185-meter high office tower and a 220-meter high residential tower. The buildings are scheduled for completion in 2019 and, following the Breezé Tower in Osaka (2005–2008), constitute the practice’s second high-rise building project in Japan. The team’s hitherto largest project is Marina One in Singapore—a 400,000-square meter high-rise project with two office towers and two residential towers that enclose a large public garden. The development will provide accommodations and workplaces for 20,000 people. The project, which was completed in 2017, is an outstanding and groundbreaking example of building in a megacity.

The practice’s main office is located in the Düsseldorf Media Harbor area. In addition, it is represented internationally in St. Moritz, Sydney and Singapore.
