In 2004, we planned the rebuilding of a six-storey storage building at the Düsseldorf docks, originally constructed in the fifties of last century, for A. T. Kearney, one of the world's leading consulting companies.
A couple of years ago, the building was heightened by two additional storeys and was modernised by the creation of an office building with loft character.
It was essential to both incorporate and intensify the existing positive atmosphere – which is evident due to the high façade entirely made of glass - throughout the interior.
The bright, light colouring of the wall and ceiling, ranging from white to aquamarine, in combination with the glass walls of the hall carry on the basic profile of transparency in the colour range of the external environment thus bringing the colours of the sky and water into the interior.
In the conference and back office area, on the ground floor the aquamarine-coloured material concept keeps in the background owing to the existent oak parquet in favour of a white to sandy colour spectrum.
Walls and furniture facings covered with high tech fabrics form a contrast to the usually smoother surface of the office walls. This helps to create not only acoustic comfort but is also visually and haptically appealing.
A continuous, straight design concept for the completion of the interior, harmonised lighting planning and a uniform, highly functional office furniture programme, individualised for A. T. Kearney, supports the effect of crispness and integrity.
Thus, an unobtrusive but special, unique ambience one can identify with was created for A. T. Kearney to assist in the development of their corporate culture.
