Bern’s Central Station public facilities expansion project consists of multiple interventions that will upgrade the facility, which has reached its peak capacity and safety limits. A new central passage forms the heart of the expansion. The spacious facility is flanked by 2’500 m2 of catering and retail space, making it an enjoyable experience. New access points include the Länggasse entry to the north, complete with bike station, and the Budenberg entry to the south which integrates the station with the urban fabric of the city. The new RBS Underground Station will be centrally connected to the new public facilities above. The glazed southern wall of the platform will allow passenger orientation, as well as provide a experiential arrival into Bern. The implementation of this complex project is taking place without disruption of ongoing rail service at the station.
