The new residential development replaces the western part of the Parkhaus am Gleisdreieck in Berlin Mitte, which was been stripped back to half its original size along the platform of the U2 subway line. The 185-meter-long housing complex, which is divided into four individual blocks, comple-ments the existing structures and is set back from the carpark building through the incorporation of atriums. These quiet, light, green spaces are for communal use and shield the apartments from external influences. The striking, curved balconies set within the angled facades of the individual buildings face the sun and break up the volume of the building in a dynamic way, giving the ensemble its own powerful identity. The 178 apartments vary in size, but they all have one thing in common: They include a terrace or balcony. The ground floor boasts family-friendly maisonettes with gardens, while the exclusive penthouses on the fifth floor have access to a large, greened roof terrace with a view over the park. Ample light and numerous links to nature create particularly high-quality housing in place of the former carpark building.
