In the historical building, located in the Marktstrasse in Hohenems, with its remarkable facade by the jugendstil architect Hanns Kornberger from the year 1908, there were to build, besides the sales area, several examination-, shop-, and therapy rooms.
The visitor is welcomed by a quadratic sales aera which contains on one side the eyeglasses and three counseling tables and on the other side comes up with a big, backlittet wall for sunglasses. Next, with a view to all sides, is the big counter. There one gets directly to the repair shop or alongside the sports glasses and hearing aids to the checkup rooms. The low shop windows are separated from the sales area through elements of presentation and can be decorated from the in and outside.
The low ceiling heights in the sales area are balanced through a structured ceiling landscape using the space between the wooden beams.
The light rows of lamps “weaved” into the ceiling and the general bright, gently nuanced colouring bring the room to life. Free positioned with nut tree veneered furniture organise the different sales areas.
Material, light and texture are playing closely together.
Under the existent construction of beams at the monopitched roof in the back area a smooth spatial structure is inserted, which contains the two refraction rooms. Also there’s an auditory room for treatment.
The existent windows and light sources in the hall could be integrated neatly, to gain the ideal illumination with daylight but leave the formal dissonance of the 80’s building behind.
