The three-part new-build ensemble consists of the MDC's 'In vivo Pathophysiology Laboratory Building' (IPL) with infrastructure building and the nearby Experimental Medicine Research Facility (FEM) of the Charité University Medical Center. With its distinctive U-shaped structure, it forms a quiet space of the Max Delbrück campus to the southern and eastern forest area.
The two different facade materials made of superior Douglas fir lamellas and fiberglass concrete elements characterize the character of the three-part building. A foyer turned into a campus serves for the stay and development of the public functions of the IPL, such as the seminar and office rooms on the ground floor and the restricted-access special laboratories. In order to exploit synergies between IPL and the neighboring FEM in the field of supply and disposal, storage and energy generation, the two organizations cooperate and build an infrastructure building that connects both new buildings together.
