In the middle of a small town, behind the church and the cemetery, a complex care center had to be built on a southern slope. The two upper floors house 4 wards with a total of 54 spacious rooms for residents, meeting and service areas. The ground floor and the lower floor are occupied not only by further central areas such as a chapel and a multipurpose room, but also by various public institutions such as a children‘s group, a family counseling service and some seminar rooms of a social union. The center of the house is a glass-covered courtyard, which invites – like a village square – to linger, to see and to be seen across all floors. The large complex is broken down into separate building volumes, that are easily recognizable inside and outside the building, but nevertheless form in total a compact building, that corresponds to the strict Swiss Minergie energy standard.
