The new residential quarter, Pergolenviertel, is located in the immediate vicinity of Hamburger Stadtpark, between Hebebrandstraße in the north and Jahnring in the south. DFZ realised a residential building with 64 apartments and an underground car park on the northern building plot 2b. Following the vision of the City of Hamburg for the Pergolenviertel, the exterior of the building is characterized by its brick facade, black metal components and glass surfaces. Through the use of special shaped bricks between the window openings, a vertical flow is created, giving the building a strong sense of identity. At the same time, this verticality responds to the city’s vision: as part of a coordinated colour concept from north to south, the colour of the brick buildings changes from grey to red, lending a unique character to the structure. The apartments are spread over four floors, accessed from the courtyard through the stairwell. Their different sizes and layouts offer a variety of uses, ensuring that a variety of target groups are provided for and therefore promoting mixed living. The courtyard offers children’s play areas, residential space and areas for urban raised garden beds. On the ground floor of Haus 2 is a spacious communal area with its own loggia. The building is constructed as a KfW Efficiency House 55 and has been awarded NaWoh certification.
