The Saxon State Museum “Haus der Archäologie“ was opened in the former department store Schocken in Chemnitz. The famous Mendelsohn building was renovated and adapted for museum functions. The three-storey permanent exhibition spans from early history to Saxon regional history. Therefore the disciplines of archaeology and history are illustratively combined and the visitor’s experience is focused on through a variety of fascinating highlights. The time-dynamic model of Saxony, which opens the exhibition-tour and vertically connects the three exhibition floors, represents the state of Saxony as a three-dimensional landscape. Interactive model parts of the country move through the different floors and establish a visual context to the respective topics of the three levels.
