As part of a Europe-wide VOF tender in 2013, SSP was awarded the contract by the City of Dortmund for the overall planning of the renovation and construction of extensions and new buildings for the Fritz-Henßler-Berufskolleg. The task is to create a fixed room program of approx. 9,600 m² of usable space, taking into account the building fabric worthy of preservation, both in the existing building and through extensions or new buildings. At its core, the design concept envisages the addition of two building blocks, which naturally and consistently complement the street-side monument and the courtyard monument to form a two-winged complex with central access corridors. Despite the almost equal proportion of usable space in the renovated existing building and in the extension or new building, the existing building determines the building configuration. The existing building configuration thus remains legible on all sides both inside and outside the building and the scale is retained. Due to this space-efficient addition of the five-storey building blocks, the building volume can be reduced to a minimum of new construction area (GFA), which simultaneously strengthens the existing building and meets the existing budget requirements. In June 2015, a solo exhibition entitled "Baukunst für Bildung - Weiterbauen am Fritz-Henßler-Berufskolleg" was dedicated to the project "Renovation and extension of the Fritz-Henßler Berufskolleg" at the old Museum am Ostwall Dortmund.
