Brett Steele, director of London's Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture has been appointed dean of the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture.
Steele has served as the AA's director since 2005, where he has underseen numerous projects: expanding the AA’s historic Bedford Square home; realizing a new rural campus in Dorset; launching the Digital Prototyping Lab; and creating new full-time MSc & MPhil graduate courses and a new PhD by Design program.
The American-born architect, educator and author will oversee, per UCLA: "the school’s leading programs in art; architecture and urban design; design and media arts; and world arts and cultures and dance; as well as the school’s two acclaimed museums — the Fowler and Hammer museums — and the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA."
Steele will assume his post in August 2017, replacing David Roussève, who has served as interim dean since 2015.
