Guggenheim Helsinki Stage One Submissions

Launched in April of this year, the Guggenheim's search for an architect for its newest branch museum received an overwhelming response, with 1,715 entries from 77 countries submitted for the September deadline. The top six countries from which entries were received are, according to the Guggenheim, the United States, Italy, Finland, the United Kingdom, France, and Japan.

As promised in September, the Guggenheim, with Malcolm Reading Consultants, has put each proposal in the open, anonymous international, two-stage competition online in a Stage One Gallery. Each submission is described with two renderings and a concept description, the latter in PDF form. Browsing all of the entries can be a daunting task, but it is one that is aided by the ability to view entries by tags (curved, twisted, pyramid, dome, transparent, etc.), mark favorites, and create a shortlist. The eleven-person jury will wade through the submissions and select six finalists by December 2, the start of the competition's second stage.
