Winners of YTAA Asia Edition Announced

YTAA's goal is to "support the talent of recent graduates – the architects, urban planners and landscape architects who will be responsible for transforming our environment in the future – as they enter the professional world." 

Submissions for the inaugural Asia Edition came from registered schools of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design in China, India, Japan, and South Korea. In total, 139 nominated diploma projects were submitted from 61 schools, with nine finalists named last month.

The three winners of the YTAA 2020 Asia Edition (alphabetical by country):

• The Wall - Children's Teaching Restaurant by Peiquan Ma, Yuan Liu, Jing Cheng, Yuxuan Liang, Zi’ang Li (CN/Tianjin University. School of Architecture)
• Mending the gap: Landscape conservation for the island of Aliabet by Shreeni Benjamin (IN/CEPT University. Faculty of Architecture)
• Yulgok street by JiSoo Kim (KR/Hanyang University. School of Architecture)

The winners were announced today during the first YTAA Day. Due to the postponement of the Venice Architecture Biennale, the YTAA 2020 exhibition will open on May 22, 2021 at the European Cultural Centre - Palazzo Mora in Venice as a collateral event of the Biennale. Before that, the exhibition will start in November 2020, traveling to universities in addition to Venice.

In addition to visibility through the exhibition, the winners receive:

• a diploma
• 5,000€ each
• a profile on World-Architects.com
• participation in events such as the awards ceremony and the Future Architecture Platform
• USM furniture to design their work space

Children’s Teaching Restaurant. This project was built in 2019 by AHO`s Scarcity and Creativity Studio (SCS) and Architecture School of Tianjin University. It is located in Xiamutang village, Ji 'an city, Jiangxi province, China. To revitalize the local village, students from AHO and Tianjin university built a children's teaching restaurant for Xiamutang.

Coastal management is one of the most indeterminate parts of urban planning for a resilient future. Ignoring minor miscalculation can result in devastating consequences. The overlooked social cost of the Sardar Sarovar Dam has left the island of Aliabet from an ecologically rich and diverse habitat of the bountiful wetland fauna to a saline wasteland.

Find and maximize the meaning of the value of the old from a modern point of view. In other words, we must find new values that exist in the layers of time from a modern perspective. The Yulgokno project was the tragic end of Changgyeonggung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine, which had forgotten stories. What should happen to the restoration project?
