The Heschel School is a new $70,000,000 high-rise school, a 145,000 sf building, located in a developing urban neighborhood on Manhattan’s West Side. The project received 2014 SARA NY Bronze Award of Honor and achieved LEED Gold certification.
The Heschel School’s new building houses an Early Childhood Center, Lower and Middle Schools and is integrated with the adjacent High School to create a single unified campus. Central to the design is a double height Commons emphasizing the concept of community. Filled with natural light from a skylight, strategic placement of school programs within the building ensure that all members of the community engage with the Commons as they move through the building.
