This was a 1600 square-foot space with north and southern exposures overlooking a tree-lined cobblestone street in Greenwich Village. The former industrial building’s brick ceilings were balanced by bleaching and desaturating existing white oak floors. Below teak casement windows, radiators and storage units were enclosed by perforated lacquer millwork. White gypsum volumes with deep reveals concealed various programs ranging from a laundry station to a built-in study. A tall kitchen island wall shielded expansive stainless steel counters from the main living areas which were characterized by the play of natural light throughout the day. Warm washed walls and incandescent globes balanced the depth of the sun’s penetration.
