In a short film from Vlaams Architectuurinstituut (Flanders Architecture Institute), curators Bie Plevoets and Sofie De Caigny describe As Found. Experiments in Preservation, the exhibition focusing on contemporary approaches to renovating existing buildings that is on display at De Singel until March 17, 2024.
Last October, World-Architects reviewed the printed companion to As Found, which was edited by De Caigny and Plevoets with fellow exhibition curator Hülya Ertas. The book, like the exhibition displays seven “experiments in preservation,” each one carrying a spatial theme — ensemble, void, reconfiguration, inside out, traces, mirror, and nuance — and accompanied by precedents outside of Flanders and Belgium. De Caigny and Plevoets speak about the exhibition in situ, where the scenography by FELT architecture & design, made from “found” elements, accentuates the theme of reuse. Watch the 6-½ minute exhibition tour below; in Dutch with English subtitles.
