Bicycle parking garage
Nuremberg, Germany
At the south exit of Nuremberg's main railway station, on the newly designed Nelson-Mandela-Platz, a secure bicycle car park has been created in collaboration with the city authorities.
The façade of the car park takes up the theme of movement and cycling in an abstract form. The slender steel columns, reminiscent of spokes, are arranged in two rows slightly offset from each other and create a sinusoidal wave movement by means of a moiré effect, which changes its appearance depending on the viewer's position.
Over a length of 111 metres, the bicycle car park connects the old and the new southern exit of the main station and offers space for around 400 bicycles, recumbent bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes and bicycles with trailers in a double-decker parking system and at ground level. There are lockable battery charging stations for e-bikes and lockers for travellers. A pump-up station with tools for minor repairs is also available.
